If you know the password, removing it is legal and simple. If you don't, we can't help — and you shouldn't be trying.
What unlock does
Removes the user password from a PDF you can already open. The file remains in its original content; the password layer is stripped.
Legitimate scenarios
- Downloaded a bank statement that requires a password every time
- Received a contract with a password you want to remove after signing
- Preparing your own files for archival
What unlock does NOT do
- Crack passwords you don't know
- Remove owner-level restrictions without permission
- Bypass DRM
Ethics + legality
You should only unlock PDFs that you own or have explicit permission to modify. Removing restrictions from third-party PDFs may violate copyright law.
